Rwanda is a land-locked East African country, which is blessed with a bountiful from nature. It is home to the elusive Mountain Gorillas, which are found in the Volcanoes national park. The only way to see these Apes is to trek in the company of local forest guards. Nyungwe Forest is the home to the Chimpanzees, which also can be seen on a short trek. While the Gorilla and Chimpanzee treks remain the top wildlife attractions of Rwanda, you can top them off with a traditional African safari at the Akagera national park. Alternately you can choose one of the more iconic safari parks like Masai Mara or Serengeti for the safaris, and choose Rwanda for the Chimpanzee and Gorilla treks.
Rwanda’s claim to fame as an African safari destination it its Gorillas. You can trek for the gorillas at the Volcanoes national park. Apart from gorilla, chimpanzee treks are another big draw, which are found at Nyungwe forest. There is a typical game safari park in Akagera but it pales in comparision to its more famous cousins Masai Mara and Serengeti in neighboring countries. You should budget 3 days for just a gorilla trek, and about 5-6 days for gorilla and chimpanzee treks.
