India is the land of erstwhile Queens and Kings, and every region of India has its folklore of valour and tradition related stories of its past generation of Kings. Particularly famous is the state of Rajasthan, which even literally translates into “abode of the Kings”. Each King used to stay in a lavish fort or palace depending on their kingdom size and wealth. Today while the Kings are not there, but their homes remain in all their glory. Each fort has a different history and architecture style. Whether it is the golden fort of Jaisalmer, or the red fort of Agra or the colorfully decorated fort of Amer, each has a different story to tell. The palaces are no less grand, and some of them offer the most luxurious heritage stays in India, like the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur.
