What it is
Ranomafana is misty, steep rainforest packed with lemurs — and the place whose discovery created a national park.
When the golden bamboo lemur was found here in 1986, it prompted the protection of this dense montane rainforest. Today Ranomafana holds a dozen lemur species, rich birdlife and a tangle of biodiversity on its steep, hydrothermal slopes.
