What it is
Kiunga is PNG's lowland birding base — the Fly River forests where the greater and twelve-wired birds-of-paradise display.
On the Fly River in the remote west, Kiunga is the launch point for lowland New Guinea birding: the greater bird-of-paradise at its lek, the twelve-wired BoP on its display pole, the dazzling king bird-of-paradise, and Flame and other bowerbirds. Days mix river journeys with forest trails into pristine lowland rainforest.
