What it is
The Norwegian Fjords are the country's defining landscape — sheer cliff walls, plunging waterfalls and deep blue water reaching far inland.
Inland from Bergen lie the great fjords: the narrow UNESCO Nærøyfjord, the Aurlandsfjord, and the dramatic Geirangerfjord further north, threaded by waterfalls and tiny farms clinging to ledges. The Flåm Railway spirals down through the cliffs, and fjord cruises glide beneath walls that rise over a kilometre from the water.
