Reached only by river, the Makushi village of Rewa sits amid utterly pristine rainforest on the Rewa river. Its oxbow lakes hold arapaima — the Amazon's giant air-breathing fish — alongside giant otters, jaguars, black caiman, harpy eagles and a wealth of birds, with world-class catch-and-release fishing and wildlife few places can match.
