What it is
The Tsingy de Bemaraha is a forest made of stone — a labyrinth of limestone needles you climb through on ropes and bridges.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Tsingy is a vast field of eroded limestone pinnacles so sharp the name means 'where you cannot walk barefoot.' You explore it on a via-ferrata of ladders, harnesses and suspension bridges, with lemurs leaping the gaps and endemic plants in the crevices.

Wet season. The road floods and the park effectively closes.
The Tsingy is reachable only in the dry months; the access road is impassable in the rains. Reasonable fitness is required for the walks.
Context

Earned, not easy

The Tsingy takes effort — a long dry-season drive and a physical day on the via-ferrata — and repays it with a landscape found nowhere else.

It is the climax of the western route, reached via Morondava and Kirindy.
