What it is

Tangkoko is the showcase of Sulawesi's strange endemic wildlife — tarsiers, black macaques and the megapode maleo, all in one coastal forest.

On the volcanic tip of northern Sulawesi, Tangkoko packs in the island's oddities: the wide-eyed spectral tarsier emerging at dusk, troops of the Critically Endangered Sulawesi black crested macaque, knobbed and red-knobbed hornbills, cuscus and the bizarre maleo that buries its eggs in warm sand.
