What it is
Abisko is the aurora capital — a national park whose rain-shadow microclimate, the famous 'Blue Hole', gives some of the clearest northern-lights skies on earth.
Sheltered by mountains beside Lake Torneträsk, Abisko sits in a rain shadow that keeps its skies unusually clear — the celebrated 'Blue Hole of Abisko'. The Aurora Sky Station, reached by chairlift, is one of the world's premier aurora-viewing spots. In summer the park is the start of the Kungsleden, Sweden's great hiking trail.
