Flores

The launch point for Komodo — a volcanic island of harbours, hills and the road to the dragons.
Getting there
Fly into Labuan Bajo (LBJ) on western Flores; boats depart for Komodo
Best for
The Komodo gateway, harbour town, island-hopping, a base before the dragons
The land
A long volcanic island; Labuan Bajo is its western port
Good to know
Most Komodo trips begin and end in Labuan Bajo, the gateway harbour
What it is
Flores is where a Komodo journey begins — the volcanic island whose western port, Labuan Bajo, launches the boats to the dragons.
Western Flores and the town of Labuan Bajo are the staging post for Komodo National Park. Beyond the harbour lie hills, hot springs and traditional villages, but for most travellers Flores is the comfortable base either side of the islands and the diving.
