What it is

Komodo is where you meet a living dragon — the three-metre monitor lizard found on just a handful of islands on earth.

When to come — honestly

A dry-season archipelago.

April – December

Best

Dry season. Calm seas, clear water and active dragons in the open savannah.

January – March

Good

Wetter and lush; seas rougher, but fewer visitors.

The dragons are wild and potentially dangerous — walks are always with rangers. Diving conditions are best in the dry season.
