What it is
Snæfellsnes is 'Iceland in miniature' — a single peninsula with a glacier-capped volcano, lava fields, fishing villages and the iconic Kirkjufell mountain.
Crowned by the Snæfellsjökull glacier-volcano (Jules Verne's gateway to the centre of the earth), the peninsula gathers black-sand beaches, lava fields, sea cliffs and the perfectly pointed Kirkjufell — Iceland's most photographed mountain, and a superb aurora foreground. Orcas and white-tailed eagles patrol the coast in season.

April – May

Spring shoulder season.
Winter weather on the exposed peninsula can be wild; orca sightings off the coast are seasonal (roughly Feb–Mar).
