Day by day

The journey, one day at a time

01Arusha → Serengeti

Into the central Serengeti

Endless plains, resident prides.

Drive from Arusha into the central Serengeti and drive the Seronera valleys for resident lion, leopard and cheetah.

02Serengeti

The Seronera valleys

Cats along the rivers.

Full days among the Seronera river lines — the surest big-cat country in the Serengeti — with the long midday to rest.

03Serengeti

Out across the plains

Open grass to the horizon.

A full day further onto the plains and kopjes, routed by where the prides and herds are moving.

04Serengeti

The Seronera valleys

Cats along the rivers.

Full days among the Seronera river lines — the surest big-cat country in the Serengeti — with the long midday to rest.

05Serengeti → Zanzibar

Out to Zanzibar

Spice island, turquoise water.

Fly to Zanzibar to Zanzibar — the rest of the day is for the beach, the reef and the lanes of Stone Town. Snorkel or dive the reef, wander Stone Town, or simply move between sea and shade.

06Zanzibar

A day on the coast

Reef in the morning, dhow at dusk.

Snorkel or dive the reef, wander Stone Town, or simply move between sea and shade. A free day — a spice tour, a dhow cruise, or nothing at all but the Indian Ocean.

07Zanzibar

Spice and sea

Slow island time.

A free day — a spice tour, a dhow cruise, or nothing at all but the Indian Ocean. Stone Town is the reason Zanzibar is more than a beach. For centuries the monsoon winds made it the hinge of Indian Ocean trade — spices, ivory, and enslaved people — and that history is written into its coral-stone lanes, its mosques and Hindu temples, its Omani fort and its carved doors. Walk it with someone who knows the stories and the island stops being a postcard and becomes a place.

08Zanzibar → home

Homeward from the island

Salt on your skin, the bush behind you.

Transfer to Zanzibar airport for your flight home — or onward to the next chapter.

When to travel

The season changes what you see.

Dec – Mar

Calving in the south

The herds gather on the short-grass plains of Ndutu and the southern Serengeti to calve — daily births and intense predator action.

Jun – Oct

Northern river crossings

The migration pushes north and the Mara River crossings begin — the headline months, and the busiest. Book well ahead.
