The wildlife
People come to the Serengeti for the game. You have a good chance at the Big Five — lion, buffalo, leopard and elephant, with rhino present but rare — along with cheetah, zebra, giraffe and hippo. The birding is good too: lilac-breasted roller, African fish eagle and many more.
The great migration
The great migration is the headline draw: over a million wildebeest and zebra crossing the plains, with predators close behind. Our guides time the trip around where the herds are.

Where to stay

Travel tips
Best time to visit
The Serengeti is good year-round, but the prime windows are January to February for the calving and June to October for the dry-season game viewing and the northern crossings. Contact us to plan around them.
Packing
Bring travel documents, medication, a first-aid kit and insect repellent; layers for cold mornings and warm middays; a hat, sunglasses and sturdy shoes; and a camera and binoculars. See our packing guide for the full list.
